Valentine's Day: A Day of Love

Love is not just a feeling; it's a choice. Make the choice to love this Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day, celebrated on February 14, is a day of romance and love. It is the day celebrated especially by couples by giving gifts, such as flowers, chocolates, and something valuable and memorable. However, Valentine's Day is not just for couples; it's also for family and friends. Valentine's Day is all about expressing our love to the people important to us.

Valentine's Day is celebrated in different parts of the world because we all want to express our love towards the people important to us. We want to make them feel special during the day of love. Additionally, Valentine's Day is also regarded as St. Valentine's Day. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. Still, others insist that it was Saint Valentine of Terni, a bishop, who was the true namesake of the holiday. According to one legend, on the other hand, an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first “valentine” greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl—possibly his jailor’s daughter—who visited him during his confinement.

In conclusion, Valentine's Day is about expressing our love to the people we treasure. It is about spreading love and care towards the people around us. And we can do this by saying kind things, giving our full attention, doing thoughtful things, hugging, kissing, and giving gifts. So, we should express our love, not just on Valentine's Day, but every day. We should stop hating and start loving.

Community-Based Research: A Zoological Adventure

Community-based research is a great way to provide solutions to a community's certain issue or problem. Community-based research is referred to as research that involves the members of a community in the design and implementation of research projects, demonstrating respect for the contributions of success that are made by community partners, as well as respect for the principle of "not harm" to the communities involved. It is a means to resolve up-to-date affairs that concern a community. It aims to improve a community's quality of life. Most importantly, it also allows the researchers to explore and enhance their socialization skills and critical thinking skills.

The Baluarte Zoo is a very popular tourist spot in Tamag, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, visited by many travelers around the world. When we went to the zoo, we were bombarded with so many people who came to visit the prominent zoo. We were guided by the workers there, and they were very accommodating to the visitors. The workers also chatted with us, telling us the origin of the animals and what kind of food they eat. We also had fun exploring the whole Baluarte Zoo while doing our research.

With regards to our research, we took pictures of the animals in the zoo, such as camels, peafowls, lions, zebras, tigers, snakes, iguanas, turtles, crocodiles, and ostriches. They were very friendly, well-trained, and entertaining. We did not find trouble in searching for the name of certain animals because the zoo provides information about them through signs, and the workers also taught us the kind of food they eat. My favorite among these animals are the turtles because they are so cute and adorable. I also love the fact that they are the symbol of protection because of their covering, which is their shell.

Aside from seeing the animals, we also got to visit the Safari Gallery. The Safari Gallery contains a collection of animals, which Chavit Singson has hunted. These statues of animals serve as tourist attractions because of their precise and almost the same structure as a live animal, which is done by the process called taxidermy. The gallery has a top view, which I love because I can see all the statues and the people below. And at the top, we can see the photos of Chavit Singson along with the animals.

Furthermore, we also had the chance to feed the animals, specifically the camels, ostriches, and deer. It was a fun activity for visitors because it allowed us to interact with the animals. They were very playful. As soon as we stopped to feed them, they came running towards us. We also got stuck because there were so many deer, and they approached us and circled us; luckily, we were not hurt.

To finish off our trip to Baluarte, we took pictures as a remembrance. We paid to get a picture with the lion. He was very obedient and calm. I also took a picture in front of the iguanas' cages. Lastly, we went to the top, where the "Baluarte" sign was located, and asked one of the people there to take a photo of us.

Lastly, to gain more data regarding our research, we interviewed some of the visitors and workers. The visitors stated some problems with the zoo and recommended some ways to resolve them. One of which is the dirty water, especially in the area of the crocodiles. The visitors recommended that the zoo improve its cleanliness because the animals are at stake if their environment is not clean. We also got the chance to interview the supervisor of the zoo, where he informed us about the methods they use to maintain the animals' well-being and their environment.

After we had gained all the information needed, we wrote our research paper and started doing its web design. We used our knowledge about HTML to make it. In addition, we also make use of CSS. We watch tutorials from the web to further enhance our knowledge about coding. And we combined all of these to create our CBR web design.

The last step in CBR is to report our research findings and to present our recommendations to address the issues stated in our research. On January 28, 2025, we were scheduled to present our research. We talked about the contents and the web design of our research. We explained the codes we used in order to come up with the different elements shown in our web design. And we successfully defended our research and also took a photo with our practice teacher in ICT.

To sum up, CBR enhances our socialization and critical thinking skills. It allows us to analyze information objectively, evaluate evidence, and draw rational conclusions. CBR helps us improve the betterment of our community because it aims to provide a solution to the various problems. But research is not enough to resolve the issues in the community. We must also exert effort and work together in order to attain a positive change.

Community-based Learning

The third quarter has been a memorable journey for me because it has allowed me to explore. I have learned a lot of things about coding. I gained knowledge in description lists and in ordered, unordered, and nested lists, which helped me organize my lists in HTML. Aside from these, I also learned community-based research, which allowed me to find more things in life and socialize with other people. The third quarter of information and communications technology have been a ride because it has helped me gain knowledge and improve myself.

It is inevitable to encounter challenges in life. But these challenges serve as lessons for us to learn and make an improvement. During the third quarter, I encountered a little trouble while working with a nested list. I was having trouble with my tags because I forgot to put some of them in, so it is not working. Additionally, I also faced problems in making our CBR web design, such as having trouble with what CSS code I will use for that specific design.

Despite these problems, I was able to encounter them with the help of our teacher and classmates. They helped me fix all of the errors, and in return, I also helped the others fix theirs. Moreover, I also watched some tutorials on the internet and read some websites about HTML and CSS. These methods helped me improve my work. I was able to gain more knowledge and enhance my skills in coding.

Moving on, I will further enhance my skills in coding. I will continue to expand my vocabulary about HTML and CSS in order to achieve my goal. I will also help the people who do not understand the concept of coding. In this way, we can all improve ourselves. And in the future, I will make use of these skills in making my own website when the time comes.

Philippines and China: The Celebration of Chinese New Year

We Filipinos have our own new year—and that is celebrated on January 1st of every year. During this time of the year, we spend our time bonding with our family and friends, trying to catch up on each other's life status. Conversely, this is not just the time when Filipinos celebrate the new year. We also celebrate the Chinese New Year on January 29. It has been a common practice for Filipinos to commemorate the celebration of Chinese New Year every year.

This 2025, January 29, the Filipinos observe the celebration of Chinese New Year. The Philippines started celebrating it in 2012, under the Aquino administration. In Proclamation No. 295 issued in November 2011, Aquino said the declaration of the Chinese New Year as a special non-working holiday would allow Filipinos and Filipino-Chinese to celebrate the holiday. In his declaration, he said the celebration of Chinese New Year is a manifestation of our solidarity with our Chinese-Filipino brethren who have been part of our lives in many respects as a country and as a people. China has played a very important role in our economics and tourism industries.

In conclusion, Chinese New Year has been commemorated in the Philippines for 14 years. It is not just a simple celebration, but a way to honor and manifest our solidarity with Chinese. They have played a vital role in our country, which has helped us in many ways. Nevertheless, even though they have contributed to the economy of the Philippines, we must not oppress China. We must work together to save the West Philippine Sea and to restore peace among the two countries.

Viva Vigan!

Vigan City is a known tourist spot that many people love to visit. It is declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a world heritage site, with all the beautiful places to visit and delicious delicacies to savor. The city was able to preserve its historical features, which make it even more lovely and gorgeous. According to tourism investment promotion officer Edgar de la Cruz, Vigan City attracts an average of a million visitors a year, both in terms of day visitors and tourists who stay overnight. With this, the city continues to improve for further development.

Originally, Vigan was called Kabigbigaan, which comes from the word biga, a plant that grows on riverbanks. Its name was then changed to Villa Fernandina in honor of King Ferdinand II of Aragon when the Spaniards colonized the Philippines. According to History Timelines, Vigan was founded in 1572 by Juan de Salcedo, a Spanish conquistador. It became a center for Spanish political, religious, and commercial activities in the northern part of the Philippines. Furthermore, it was utilized as a trading hub between the indigenous peoples of the Philippines and Chinese merchants frequenting the region.

Vigan earned its title as a city in 1858, declared by Queen Isabella II. The city was known for its beautiful Spanish colonial architecture and was a major center for trade and commerce. As a result, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. It is widely known for its cobblestone streets, ancestral houses, and historic landmarks such as the St. Paul's Metropolitan Cathedral. Today, Vigan is a popular tourist destination in the Philippines and a symbol of the country's rich cultural heritage.

To commemorate Vigan's cityhood, the Republic Act No. 9411 was passed to the Congress of the Philippines, declaring that every January 22 of each year is a nonworking holiday in the city of Vigan. As time passes, Vigan's economy continues to grow even more. There are more tourists that come and visit the city every year. To conclude, Vigan's cityhood is a very important part of its history and culture because it reminds us Bigueños of the hardships our ancestors have done in the past. It is one of the things that we are proud of as Bigueños.

New Beginnings in the New Year: Better Me, Better Decision Maker

"With a new year comes new hopes, new ideas, and new opportunities to make our lives the best they can be." This quote implies that every new year, we can encounter new things that can make our lives better depending on how we face them. As many say, "New year, new me." This is a phrase that refers to starting a new year with the intention of becoming a completely new person. The new year gives us the chance to change and improve ourselves to become better people and to allow ourselves to conquer new challenges in life as we embark on our journey for another 365 days.

This year, I decided to change many things about myself for the better. One of these changes is the way I think about life. The new year gave me an opportunity to have a better understanding about life, and it taught me to foresee a positive outcome to every circumstance in life. Additionally, it also taught me to ignore negativity and turn it into positivity. It made me realize that just because I am going through a bad time right now doesn't mean I'm not going to get a great ending.

Another change is the change in my study habits. I have sworn to myself that I will try to conquer my fears and be more active and outgoing. This year, I will manage my time wisely so that I will accomplish many tasks. I will make everything organized so that I can improve my productivity. Furthermore, I will also accomplish all my goals, both in studies and in life.

Lastly, I also decided to change my financial goals. I will spend my money wisely so that I will not waste a single peso. Also, I will save more money in order that I will be able to use it in times of crisis. As a student, it is very important to have saved money so that I will not be starving myself and so that I will be able to pay my tuition fee. This careful financial planning will allow me to focus on my studies without the constant worry of financial instability.

In conclusion, there are many things that we can change in ourselves to make our lives the best they can be. We can change our looks, attitude, healthcare, financial goals, study habits, and our perspective in life. But even so, we must remember to not forget the people who have supported us from the very beginning of our journey. We should all express gratitude to those people, especially our family, for always being there for us. Finally, let us spread love and positivity.
